MARIUS BEETS- double-bass (26.06.66)


Marius started on the electric bass-guitar at the age of 14. At the age of twenty he started
studying jazz double-bass at the Royal Conservatory, The Hague. In 1994 he graduated with honors.
His playing is inspired by Paul Chambers, Ray Brown, Sam Jones, Ron Carter and Chris McBride.
Marius is a regular member of the Beets Brothers, the Houdini's and the Rein de Graaff Trio
and shared the stage with jazz-celebreties as James Moody, Bud Shank, Johnny Griffin
and recorded with Herb Geller, Dave Liebman, Ronnie Cuber and Jeff Hamilton.
Marius also worked with singers like Rita Reys, Greetje Kauffeld, Trijntje Oosterhuis and Deborah Brown
and played in several big-bands: The Skymasters, The Metropole Orchestra and The Jazz Orchestra of the Concertgebouw.
From 1999 on Marius is a member of the teaching staff of the Codarts Jazz-academy Rotterdam.
Besides he is also a composer and arranger. His works are being played by a number of groups since 20 years.
He wrote pieces for the Houdini's, the Beets Brothers, Dungen/Hoogendijk quintet, Lotz of Music, Rein de Graaff,
the Eric Ineke JazzXpress and others. He also made orchestrations for Deborah Brown, Trijntje Oosterhuis
and Bobby McFerrin, and for large classical- and jazz ensembles like Amsterdam Sinfonietta, Residentie Orkest
and Jazzorchestra of the Concertgebouw, and last but not least for his own Powerhouse bigband.
